The agricultural utilisation of dried sludge from municipal sewage treatment plants is becoming more difficult and therefore more expensive. The costs of sewage sludge disposal in Europe are estimated at 2.2 billion euros, provided the current high level of utilisation for agricultural and landscaping purposes is maintained (60%).
